About the San Telmo neighborhood
Barrio de San Telmo
In Buenos Aires, each neighborhood has its own atmosphere and color. San Telmo, for example, is also described as the ‘Jordaan of Buenos Aires’. The neighborhood is very atmospheric due to the narrow streets, the artists, the unique bars and restaurants. Particularly noteworthy are the beautiful mansions: a legacy from the 19th century when San Telmo still belonged to the wealthier families of the city. Tango is also well represented here, thanks to the many tango schools and institutes.
About Buenos Aires
It is the city of tango, of the square of the foolish mothers and of Evita Péron: Buenos Aires. The capital of Argentina is filled with city palaces, wide boulevards and large squares. Moreover, Buenos Aires is a bustling city that is in motion day and night.

Food & Drink
Good food is part of everyday life in Buenos Aires. The local population knows what a good kitchen needs and they draw inspiration from all corners of the world. The restaurants, bistros and eateries cater to every budget, from delicious street food to multi-course menus in the gastronomic restaurants. Argentina is especially known for its beef. The steak is one of the most popular dishes in Buenos Aires.
Excursions
Feria de Mataderos
The Feria de Mataderos is a traditional Sunday market. This market is held every Sunday in the neighborhood of Mataderos that bears the same name. Mataderos is the perfect location to enjoy traditional singing and dancing, gaucho competitions, beautiful (often homemade) souvenirs, and delicious food. The square is surrounded by huge parillas (Argentine barbecues) and more than 100 market stalls selling everything imaginable.
Plaza Dorrego
Plaza Dorrego is a famous square in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood. It is one of the oldest squares in the city and is surrounded by bars, pubs, and coffee houses. At the square itself, tango dancers often show off their best. Every Sunday morning there is a large antiques market. The square and the streets around it are then filled with stalls and stands selling art, kitsch, and antiques. There are also often street performers and mime actors.
La Boca
La Boca is one of the most colorful neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. The heart of the tourist part of La Boca is the street El Caminito. Around this street are many restaurants and souvenir shops. La Boca is not exactly the birthplace of Tango, but it was here that the dance and music became extremely popular. You can still find numerous tango clubs and tango dancers/shows outside on the street. The houses are decorated with murals about Tango and the culture in the area. El Caminito with its many murals and statues is sometimes called the world's first open-air museum for pedestrians. The neighborhood is also known worldwide for its famous football club Boca Juniors. Their former star player Diego Maradonna.

Stay at Boutique Hotel Mariposita de San Telmo
During this trip we are staying at the Boutique Hotel Mariposita de San Telmo in Buenos Aires in the San Telmo district. We chose to stay at this hotel because there is also a tango school in this hotel where we will of course take classes. The hotel is a small paradise in the city center and is fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. The rooms are modernly decorated and have their own bathroom, toilet, refrigerator, microwave and kettle. In addition, there is free WiFi, air conditioning, a garden, a cozy common area and a kitchen.
About Mariposita de San Telmo
Carolina Bonaventura, founder and director of Mariposita de San Telmo, started the tango school and the hotel 16 years ago.
Her eye fell on an old house and she 'renovated' it with one goal in mind: to make Tangueros the best place ever to enjoy your tango in Buenos Aires. Located in a cultural area, full of art and close to many milongas.
A great location with the best dance floor in the city, a beautiful outdoor area, comfortable hotel rooms, run by Carolina and her mother.
It is a family business run by two artists: Carolina's mother is an architect and Carolina is a dancer.
They have created Mariposita with passion, love and respect for their heritage.
A place for tangos lovers!
You will be taught by these teachers during the trip
